The Irish St. Patrick?

The Truth is Better than the Legend

Okay, here's the scoop:

St. Patrick: who was he?

1. He was born in England as an Englishman. He was not Irish.

2. He was not born on March 17.

3. He was never "sainted" by the Catholic church, so he is not St. Patrick.

4. He was a PK (preacher's kid).

5. At 16 years of age, he was kidnapped by Irish pirates.

6. He was taken to Ireland and was sold into slavery.

7. While a slave, he began to pray to the God of his daddy, the preacher.

8. He actually became such a good Christian that the Irish people started calling him the "Holy Youth."

9. At age 22 he escaped and made his way back to England where his family was delighted to discover he was still alive.

10. At age 42, he was called by God to go back to Ireland as a missionary, and, thus, he was the first person to carry the Gospel of Christ to Ireland in any significant manner, and he converted Irish people to Christianity.

Now, for the BIG one: No, he never drove the snakes out of Ireland. Ireland never had snakes.
